Windy here to bring you new changes and content along with an introduction to our new mode! Make sure to check out the patch notes for Cobalt Protocol as well!

Cobalt Protocol

Our new mode, Cobalt Protocol, is finally coming to Eternal Return!

Cobalt Protocol (COBALT, Concealed Operation of Bolstered Adaptive Lab Tests) is a 4v4 arena battle taking place in what looks like a reeeallly big human experimentation lab. There’ll be no material searching or item crafting in Cobalt Protocol! Instead, this new mode centers around endless revival, fast-paced combat, and item drafting.

System

Matching Quick Start Function

The days of 17/18 are over. All hail the new age of 14/15. When matchmaking's tough, games will now start even when the queue isn't full.

  • Quick Start will activate if the queue time of the currently longest-queueing player has exceeded a certain length of time.

  • Solo and Squad matches require a minimum of 15 players. Duo matches require a minimum of 14 players.

  • Thresholds for Quick Start will be adjusted based on data and player feedback later on.

Transfer Drones, Transfer Consoles & Mutants Improvements

  • The cost of calling in a Transfer Drone now increases based on the number of requests, and no longer by day progression. The more Transfer Drones you call, the more expensive they’ll get.

    • Before: Initial Transfer Drone costs 15 Credits. Cost increases by 1 per day cycle.

    • After: Initial Transfer Drone costs 12 Credits. Each subsequent drone will cost 2 more than the previous one.

  • Transfer Console Cooldown

    • Solo 60s (No Changes)

    • Duo 60 → 75s

    • Squad 60 → 90s

    • This cooldown can be seen when activating the Overlay(F8) hotkey.

  • Credits from Mutants

    • Chicken 3 (No Changes)

    • Bat 4 → 5

    • Boar 4 → 5

    • Wild Dog 5 → 6

    • Wolf 6 → 7

    • Bear 8 → 9

  • The Transfer Console icon will be displayed over air supply box icons in the minimap.

Kill & Executioner Improvements

Improving consistency for the HP & SP recovery effects triggered upon killing an enemy.

  • Kill Effects

    • Killing a test subject grants HP/SP Recovery and a Restricted Area Timer Reset to the player who got the kill (and their teammates, if applicable).

    • Activates instantly upon test subject kill → Activates 0.55 seconds after test subject kill

    • Restricted Area Timer reset will still be instant.

  • Executioner Effects

    • In Solo, players who contributed 50% or more of the damage in the killing of a test subject are granted HP/SP Recovery and a Restricted Area Timer Reset.

    • Upon test subject kill, heal over the next 3 seconds → Activates 0.55 seconds after test subject kill

    • Restricted Area Timer reset will still be instant.

  • The newly added 0.55s activation delay will make it more obvious to know when the recovery effect has been triggered, but it also means that trading kills will become more common.

Team Play Improvements

Quality of life changes for team modes!

  • Alpha, Omega, Gamma and Wickeline got their targeting algorithm updated.

    • Before: Targets the closest test subject in combat.

    • After: Targets the closest test subject in combat belonging to the initiating team. Will not target downed players.

    • You can now take turns holding aggro with your teammates!

  • You can now cast ally-targeted skills by clicking on your teammate’s portrait next to the minimap.

    • Only works for skills able to target allies.

    • If you want to cast the skill targeting yourself, you can click on your own portrait.

  • Camera automatically switches focus to a teammate 3 seconds after your death.

    • Both the camera and sound engine will be attached to your teammate. This means you’ll now hear the same sounds as your chosen teammate rather than the sounds around your dead body.

    • Spectate a different teammate by pressing the PageUp / PageDown key or by clicking on the portrait next to the minimap.

Limited Item Swapping

We don’t want warm-swapping between items with unique passives to be a prevalent strategy.

  • When an item’s unique passive is on cooldown, that item cannot be unequipped.

    • This includes both Active and Unique Passives.

    • e.g. After Temporal Refraction activates, you can’t swap that item with a different one until Temporal Refraction is available again.

    • Alex can still swap items by casting Double Agent/Blowback (E).

Limited Traps and Cameras

To prevent oppressive zone control, the number of total cameras and traps you can have down at once has been reduced.

  • The installation limit for Surveillance Cameras and Telephoto Cameras have been merged.

    • 3 Surveillance Cameras and 3 Telephoto Cameras → 3 cameras in total, regardless of type

    • Nathapon’s Trail Camera is counted separately and not bound by this limit.

  • maximum of 5 traps can be placed at a time.  (Includes all traps, regardless of type)

    • Placing a trap while already having 5 active traps will destroy the oldest trap.

    • Traps set by skills are counted separately and not bound by this limit.

Augments
  • You can now purchase a maximum of 20 Augments pages instead of 10.

  • Augment explanations have been simplified. Check out the new tooltips!
